The inclusion of individuals from these groups will significantly contribute to a diverse research workforce in the future.
RFP- Enabling Stress Resistance Program Number: 04072
Sponsor: Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency
Deadline:Initial Full Proposals are due by 4:00PM ET, August 24, 2009
SYNOPSIS:
DARPA is seeking innovative research proposals to create a comprehensive, quantitative description of the impact of stress on the brain. This effort seeks to leverage cutting-edge technologies and recent advances in molecular neurobiology, neuroimaging and molecular pathway modeling as applied to animal models of acute and chronic stress. The objective of the effort is a proactive approach to stress mitigation, starting with development of a comprehensive understanding of the complex effects of multiple stressors on the brain. The program has the ultimate goal of the development and implementation of cognitive, behavioral and/or pharmacological interventions that will prevent the deleterious effects of stress on the brain.DARPA envisions the creation of molecular mechanism ‘teams’ of researchers for a thorough investigation into the multiple pathways involved in the brain’s response to acute and chronic stress as well as physical, social, cognitive and affective stressors.Although motivation for the effort is derived from stresses associated with the operational environment, this effort will involve animal systems only. Proposals that involve human use, even if only a portion of the overall effort, will be deemed non-responsive.
