Baxter BioScience Grants program

Agency:        Baxter Healtcare Corporation

Deadline:       30 JUNE 2010, 30 SEP 2010, and 30 Dec 2010

URL:             http://www.baxterbiosciencegrants.com/index.html

As part of Baxter's commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse patient population, they have created the Baxter BioScience Grants program.  Focusing on the patient as a priority, the program is designed to support novel therapeutic discoveries.  Investigators and other requestors are encouraged to submit applications for funding to help expand the body of scientific knowledge to benefit healthcare practitioners and their patients worldwide.

Baxter is currently interested in supporting research in the following areas:

-         Immunology

-         Neurology

-         Hematology

-         BioSurgery

-         Pulmonology

-         Cellular Therapy / Regenerative Medicine

The Baxter BioScience Grants program offers the Clinical Research grant application type, which are those studies that involve the use of therapeutics or medical devices in human study subjects.  Baxter also offers the Non-Clinical Research grant application type, which are those studies that involve non-human subjects (e.g., laboratory animal studies, bench-work).

ELEKTA INVESTIGATOR INITIATED RESEARCH GRANT

Agency:        Elekta

Deadline:       Rolling deadline

URL:                       http://www.elekta.com/healthcare_international_elekta_investigator_initiated_research_grant_application.php

Elekta has a long and rich tradition of supporting investigator initiated research that leads to advances in technology and clinical care.  Elekta can support investigator initiated Research and Development Agreement Projects via a number of mechanisms that include the provision of research funds, information, access to research hardware and/or software, and access to other Elekta resources.

Elekta places a high value on having clearly defined goals and tasks, meeting specific milestones and providing associated deliverables.  It should be made clear how these will be met and achieved.

PFIZER global investigator-initiated research

Agency:        Pfizer

Deadline:       Rolling deadline

URL:             http://www.pfizer.com/research/investigator/investigator_initiative.jsp

The mission and purpose of the Investigator-Initiated Research (IIR) Program is to provide support for investigator-initiated research that advances medical and scientific knowledge about our products and that generates promising medical interventions. This global program is open to all researchers who are interested in conducting their own research.

Types of Research Eligible for Support:

Ÿ  Clinical studies of approved and unapproved uses, involving approved or unapproved Pfizer drugs

Ÿ  Observational studies, such as epidemiology studies and certain outcomes research studies where the primary focus is the scientific understanding of disease

Ÿ  Other types of independent research on disease states, including novel diagnostic screening tools and surveys where Pfizer has no direct commercial interest

Ÿ  In vitro or animal studies which include funding*

Epigenomics of Human Health and Disease

Agency:        National Institutes of Health

Number:        RFA-ES-10-002

Deadline(s):   Letter of Intent: August 29, 2010

                   Application: September 29, 2010

Mechanism:   R01

URL:             http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-ES-10-002.html

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) invites applications proposing highly innovative research that will investigate the epigenetic basis of human diseases. These studies will discover and define epigenetic marks or features and their possible interactions in cells and tissues that are representative of various human disease states, conditions or processes. Studies may also investigate the mechanism by which epigenetic changes occur in diseased or otherwise compromised states, and how these changes result in phenotypic differences.

2011 NIH Director’s Pioneer Award Program (DP1)

Agency:       National Institutes of Health

Number:       RFA-RM-10-008

Deadline(s):  Application: September 13, 2010

Mechanism:   DP1

URL:             http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-RM-10-008.html

The NIH Director’s Pioneer Award program complements NIH’s traditional, investigator-initiated grant programs by supporting individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose pioneering and possibly transforming approaches to addressing major biomedical or behavioral challenges. To be considered pioneering, the proposed research must reflect substantially different scientific directions from those already being pursued in the investigator’s laboratory or elsewhere. Awardees must commit the major portion (at least 51%) of their research effort to activities supported by the Pioneer Award.  The NIH Director’s Pioneer Award Program is a High-Risk Research initiative of Research Teams of the Future.
